La Placita

On East Grand

CAPITOL EAST NEIGHBORHOOD

East Grand / East 15th / East 16th Street

Commercial Retail & Restaurant

DEVELOPMENT OVERVIEW

La Placita on East Grand is a collection of newly developed and older renovated commercial buildings on the north side of East Grand, between 15th and 16th Street. The properties were acquired by the NDC and developed over a ten year period. In 2015 the center was renamed “La Placita on East Grand”, which stands for "little plaza or marketplace" in Spanish. La Placita includes six different buildings with shared parking, and has approximately 20 commercial tenants with apartments on the second floor of one of the buildings.

La Placita has been redeveloped in the American southwest architectural style. It currently hosts four restaurants, including: Los Laureles, Rolling Wok, La Paleteria Michoacana, and Patton’s Restaurant. It also includes a grocery store, Tienda Mexicana, and a bakery, Panaderia Mendez, as well as a host of other businesses.

The center underwent improvements in 2015, which include a mural, painted by Iowa Artist John Neal, and updated painting on the exteriors of the buildings.
