OUR STORY
Not Your Ordinary Developer
NDC was created in 1999 as part of a 28E agreement between the City of Des Moines, Polk County, Des Moines Development Corporation, and Federal Home Loan Bank. Currently, NDC’s footprint is in the Greater Des Moines community but is looking to expand throughout the entire state of Iowa where other communities and neighborhoods could use our professional insight, knowledge and experience in meaningful development.
Since the organization’s founding, NDC has helped many businesses with planning and/or startup ventures in the Des Moines area. Funded in part by the City of Des Moines, NDC has leveraged $3 million into $40 million worth of development in just the past few years.

Our Team

Abbey Gilroy
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Abbey has been in real estate development for 15 years with an early focus on regionally based retail and office development. In that role, she gained experience in working with numerous municipalities and markets. Her sights changed to a more local emphasis when she joined NDC in 2011. In her current role as Executive Director, she engages with community leaders and elected officials to identify areas of economic opportunity. Through public/private partnerships, Neighborhood Development Corporation has brought density and retail into neighborhoods that have been lacking such for decades. It has also brought private investment into areas where it normally would not have been considered.
Sadie Trytten
DIRECTOR OF REAL ESTATE
Sadie comes to us after 10 plus years-experience in the non-profit sector where she received her IOM, Institute for Organization Management. This is a four-year program that focuses on non-profit governance. Joining the NDC staff in June of 2018 as the Director of Operations, she will help us strengthen our brand and run the operation as efficiently as we can. As former CEO of a Des Moines chamber of commerce, she will collaborate with city and county officials, businesses and neighborhoods

Amy Coenen
OPERATIONS ASSISTANT
Amy brings us knowledge of over 20 years as an entrepreneur. Her expertise ranges from day-to-day operations to understanding small business’s needs. As Operations Associate, Amy will work with our Vendors, Directors and Volunteers to assure all communication is moving in the right direction to use our funds the most effectively in the City of Des Moines.
Our Board
Our Board of Directors is comprised of distinguished individuals from Des Moines, Polk County, the Neighborhood Revitalization Board, and the business community. Their service to our mission and the community at large is one of the most essential reasons for our success.
